Steven Sinofsky, il capo della divisione Windows, ha annunciato che Windows 8 verrà rilasciato ufficialmente il 26 Ottobre 2012. Insieme a Windows 8 verrà rilasciato anche il tablet Surface RT perchè la data di debutto era stata annunciata come contemporanea a Windows 8.
