Come molti avranno notato nel corso di questi anni, aggiornare Windows 7 e, ultimamente, anche Windows 8.1 è diventata un'impresa in quanto, una volta eseguita un'installazione pulita di entrambi gli OS, è necessario effettuare un lunga serie di aggiornamenti che richiedono molto tempo oltre che rendere più pesante Windows. Ora Microsoft offre una pratica soluzione con gli aggiornamenti cumulativi mensili.
Windows 8.1: L'aggiornamento è denominato KB4074594 (Monthly Rollup) e questo è il changelog ufficiale:

Per ricapitolare, a partire da Ottobre 2016, Microsoft ha esteso la procedura di aggiornamento di Windows 10 anche ai precedenti OS fino a Windows 7. La procedura prevede il rilascio di un unico aggiornamento mensile che racchiude tutti gli aggiornamenti.
Ciò significa che ogni mese viene rilasciato un aggiornamento cumulativo che contiene non solo gli aggiornamenti del mese corrente ma anche quelli precedenti.
I dispositivi che installeranno gli aggiornamenti da Windows Update e WSUS, riceveranno dei pacchetti di piccole dimensioni. Questi aggiornamenti cumulativi vengono rilasciati in Windows Update, WSUS, SCCM e nel Microsoft Update Catalog.
Inoltre Microsoft rilascia anche un aggiornamento per la sicurezza che conterrà solo gli aggiornamenti per quel mese e questo non sarà rilasciato su Windows Update ma solo su WSUS, SCCM e Microsoft Update Catalog.
